New music sucks (Mildly NSFW)

Saturday, February 28th, 2009

I’m laying here on my bed, with 93.7 on the radio. I didn’t feel like messing with iTunes tonight, and figured I’d get some of the “party vibe” without leaving my room. This has led to mild anger. The cause?

Flo’ Rida’s new “song” – which is a blatant ripoff of You Spin Me Round by Dead or Alive. The stolen beat wouldn’t bother me so much if it weren’t for the obscene lyrics. Okay, Flo’ Rida, we get it. Your lady friend gives amazing head. Apparently, you do a good job with her as well. But what in your right …

O-Ring: Purchased.

Thursday, February 26th, 2009

To preface a bit – my Miata has a camshaft angle sensor. This sensor is located near the back of the engine, and has an O-ring that eventually dries up as all rubber parts do. Mine is very dried out, as evidenced by the blown heater hose a few weeks ago. How do I know? It’s located right above the hose, and drips oil onto said hoses, causing them to burst.

After saying I’d replace this O-ring since I bought the car last June, I finally got to Advance and bought the part. It cost me 62 cents. Now comes the …

Website :: Almost Done

Wednesday, February 25th, 2009

This is getting exciting! I finally (with Ben’s help, of course) got the Design page of my site working properly. JavaScript is confusing. I need to sit down and work through the syntax a bit. Until then, I will leave it up to the pros.

I just have some minor changes and tweaks to make before I announce the URL to the world. Give me one more chunk-of-time between classes and I think it will be done.

Two more weeks.

Monday, February 23rd, 2009

For some reason, I find the fact that there are two weeks left before spring break hard to fathom. This weekend flew by, and I didn’t even do much of anything. Chipotle run on Saturday, then UREC and caught a bit of SNL with Ben. And today? Yeah, no. I finally got out of bed at noon (!!) and decided to clean my apartment. My bedroom had become a wreck, since my time during the weeks is very limited. I can see the floor again, thankfully. My bathroom is clean, too.

Made dinner and breakfast (blueberry muffins, w00t) for tomorrow, and …

Arguments against the supernatural, part two

Thursday, February 19th, 2009

Moving on, now. The next argument is the argument from contingency. Before I get started, let me clear up two terms. Things that are contingent could either exist, or not exist. Human beings are a prime example. You are on this earth because your parents created you – but if they had not, or if anything slightly different happened in da’ womb, you wouldn’t be here as YOU. Second – things that are necessary must exist. We cannot conceive them as not existing. Basically, this refers to God. Now… to the premises/conclusions.

The physical world, as a whole, exists contingently. This is to say that it COULD not be here.
Everything that exists contingently must have a reason for existing, versus NOT existing.
Contingent beings do not explain their existence by themselves; they need some other thing to explain their existence. Think of humans here. I did not just pop into the world one day – my parents are the reasoning behind my contingent existence.

Because the physical world IS contingent, then, its existence must be explained by something else.

Arguments against the supernatural

Thursday, February 19th, 2009

aka, rational thinking! I’m mainly typing this out for my own benefit. I have an essay-style test on these concepts tomorrow, and this is being written in the hopes of a better memory for tomorrow. Regardless, it should be an interesting read.

I’m going to start with the argument from causation.

If a series of events had no first cause, then it would have no absolute beginning.
If said events had no absolute beginning, then they could never take place.

Therefore, if there is no first cause within a series of events, that series of events could never take place.

Also, given that a series of events is happening, it MUST have a first cause.

Wind “gusts” and piss-poor management.

Friday, February 13th, 2009

I’m not entirely sure what’s up with the whole high-pressure/low-pressure thing, but we have some WIND going on. Yesterday wasn’t so bad until late evening – at which time Harrisonburg experienced a monsoon that somehow knocked out my AT&T service for an hour – but today has been “gusty.”

According to the local TV news, Harrisonburg experienced a “gust” of up to 54 mph today. That’s more than a gust, in my opinion. My apartment sounds like it’s going to fall apart at any moment. I hear whistling, because the doors and windows are not fully sealed and are letting this …

Big and Bad

Friday, February 13th, 2009

If you care about the safety of yourself and others while driving, you owe it to everyone to read this article.

I think I agree with the entirety of what is written. Some of it is relative. Obviously, an Expedition would be safer with an alert, experienced driver at the wheel versus a 17-year-old who is busy texting his or her BFFs. However, these tanks of vehicles just don’t handle as well as smaller cars.

My parents get freaked out when we all travel in the Escape. Why? Because I’m an alert driver, and therefore don’t drive …

Ittt’sssss… Tax Time!

Wednesday, February 11th, 2009

I decided to submit my own tax return information this year. In the past, Dad has sent my stuff through his accountant, and for a lovely $50 fee, Paul did the work. I wanted to save the money, so I submitted through Turbo Tax. Federal submission was free, and Virginia state cost $9.95.

Looks like I’m getting about $700-750 back. I E-Filed and chose direct deposit, so there are no stamps or checks involved! Just got the email saying that everything has been approved, and I’ll get the money back in a week or so….

Out late, or up early?

Sunday, February 8th, 2009

As I write this sentence, my computer tells me it is 4:04 in the morning. I’m not staying up only to write this – but it’s giving me something to do while I upload 73 MB of pictures to my iDisk for The Breeze. What started as a simple-enough birthday dinner turned into an oh-so-awesome chat about all facets of life.

I think Steve peaced out around 11. Emily left at oh, 1:15 or so. That left me, Ben, and Sarah. What followed in those next two hours is not to be shared. It’s safe to say we discussed every bit …
